Sociology Scholarship - Freshman Students

Departmental scholarship awarded to sociology students for their first/freshman year at Western. Application period is open December 1st – April 1st for scholarships that will be awarded for the 2021-2022 Academic year. The total amount of the scholarship will be awarded in an even split between the fall and spring semesters unless otherwise approved by the department.

Minimum requirements:

  • Majoring in a degree program from the Sociology Department
  • Students within the first 32 credits of their degree program
  • Full-time enrollment
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 (for continuation for the spring semester)

All freshman applicants are also required to submit a personal essay on the following topics:

  • Why you feel you should be a recipient of the scholarship
  • Your educational goals
  • Your future career goals
