Rocket Miner Scholarship

The Rocket Miner and Western have started collaborating to create new scholarships that will be available to students living in our service area of, Sweetwater, Sublette, Lincoln, Uinta, and Carbon counties. There will be three scholarships available for the Fall of 2023 semester and each of them will be worth one-third of a student’s full-time tuition!* Preference may be given to non-traditional students and students with greater unmet financial needs. Quality candidates will be invited on campus for a final interview and selection with the Rocket Miner Scholarship Review Team prior to the start of the fall term.

To be considered for this scholarship, you will need to meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Completed your FAFSA for the 2022-2023 academic year.
  • Maintain a High School or College GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Student must be enrolled full-time.
  • Live in the Rocket Miner service area (Sweetwater, Sublette, Lincoln, Uinta, and Carbon counties).
  • Continuous enrollment
  • Be an active member of your local community.
  • Answer all essay questions on this application. These questions will be:
    1. Introduce yourself. Who are you and what do you stand for?
    2. Why should you be selected for this scholarship?
    3. Think about a negative experience you have had. What happened, and how did you bring about a positive change?
    4. How are you involved with the community?
    5. For what purpose are you continuing your education?

To qualify for this award again in future semesters, current recipients will be offered a resume-building opportunity asking students to commit to 20 hours of volunteer work throughout the semester, working with a non-profit organization within the Rocket Miner service area. While this participation is not required, current recipients who opt out of this opportunity will not be eligible to receive this award the following semester.

The students awarded will:

  • Be published in the Rocket Miner.
  • Participate in a Congratulatory meet and greet.
